
Yuzvendra Chahal of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) surpassed renowned Sri Lanka bowler Lasith Malinga on Wednesday to become the second-highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. In the cash-rich competition, the experienced spinner is the lone Indian bowler with 170+ wickets. He reached this milestone during his team’s encounter against the Punjab Kings in Guwahati. Chahal got penalised throughout the game. It was a difficult day at work for the spinner after a match-winning 4/17 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. While he did get Jitesh Sharma out for 27 off 16 balls, he was blasted for 50 runs in his four-over quota and finished with an economy rate of 12.50.
He was his team’s most costly bowler in the last match.
Chahal has 171 wickets in 133 matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before joining Rajasthan Royals, with an average of 21.58 and an economy rate of 7.62. His best league bowling statistics are 5/40.
Malinga, who played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL from 2009 to 2019, took 170 wickets in 122 matches at an average of 19.79 and an economy rate of 7.14. His greatest bowling average is 5/13.
Dwayne Bravo is the league’s all-time highest wicket-taker. The all-rounder for the Chennai Super Kings and the West Indies has collected 183 wickets in 161 matches at an average of 23.82 and an economy rate of 8.38. His best league bowling statistics are 4/22. Amit Mishra (166 wickets) and Ravichandran Ashwin are two more significant performers behind Bravo, Chahal, and Malinga (159).
