We know that how much players get paid, what is the winning amount for Man of the Match Award but do we think about how much do cricket umpires get paid?

We don’t get tired talking about cricket – whether it be players, teams or tournaments. But we never think about the men who run the game smoothly – Yes, the umpires. It is because of the umpires that a game runs so smoothly. We know that how much players get paid, what is the winning amount for Man of the Match Award but do we think about how much do a cricket umpire get paid?

For performing their duties during international matches, the umpires receive enormous pay. An ICC Elite panel umpire may earn between 35,000 and 45,000 US Dollars (about Rs. 24,00,000) per year (Rs 31,00,000 approx). Also, according to a source, ICC umpires earn a stunning 1000 US Dollars (about Rs. 70,000) in T20I and 2200 US Dollars (1,50,000 approximate) in ODI matches in addition to receiving match fees of 3,000 US Dollars (roughly Rs. 2,00,000) during Test matches.

An Elite panel umpire typically officiates eight to ten Test matches and ten to fifteen ODIs annually, bringing in an additional 46,000 US Dollars (about Rs. 32,00,000) on top of the ICC yearly remuneration. When the umpires start working in ICC competitions, the payment rises.

Umpires make a staggering 2500 US Dollars (on average) every match during the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), which is considered as possibly the greatest T20 league in the world. This amounts to about Rs 1,70,000. The ICC umpires receive free travel across the world for official duties in addition to match payments. If an umpire travels for a series or tournament, his stay at the luxurious hotels is also complimentary.

It’s interesting to note that a person can become an umpire even if they have never played professional cricket and must make the same retirement announcement as every other player. An umpire can choose to re-join the panel of match referees after retiring, but only after completing the necessary exams. They also undergo routine medical examinations to demonstrate their fitness for the demanding job of an umpire.
