IND vs AUS 3nd Test: KL Rahul’s removal as Test vice-captain does not mean anything, says Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma was asked about KL Rahul being stripped of vice-captaincy for the last two Tests during the pre-match news conference.

KL Rahul, India’s opening batter, has come under fire for his poor batting performance in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Rahul, who was selected vice-captain for the first two Tests, has only made 38 runs in three innings. Numerous current and former players have questioned his presence in the team, arguing that in-form teenager Shubman Gill should be included. India skipper Rohit Sharma was asked about Rahul’s removal from vice-captaincy for the last two Tests during the pre-match news conference.

Responding to the querry, Rohit said: “All 17 players in the team has a chance. The team will back those who are talented. Stripping vice-captaincy doesn’t mean anything big. He was made the vice-captain because maybe there was not many experienced players at that time. It is not a big thing,” Rohit said on the eve of the third Test.

India is anticipated to add to their aura of invincibility at home with another series win, while a depleted Australia will require nothing less than a Herculean effort to recover in the third Test, which begins Wednesday in Indore.
