Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the fastest indigenous cricketer to take 250 wickets and score 2500 runs in Test cricket. On Friday, he accomplished the feat during the ongoing second Test against Australia at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Jadeja accomplished the landmark after defeating set-opener Usman Khawaja in the second session of the first day. KL Rahul’s superb one-handed catch sent Khawaja back to the pavilion after he had scored 81 runs.
In his 62nd Test, Jadeja became the second-fastest player in history to accomplish the combination of 250 wickets and 2500 runs in the game’s longest format.
Meanwhile, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 100th wicket against Australia. He dismissed Alex Carey for a duck to claim his 100th wicket against Australia. Ashwin becomes the second bowler, after Anil Kumble, to record 100 Test wickets against Australia.
Australia finished the second session with a score of 199/6. Peter Handscomb and captain Pat Cummins batted for 36 and 23 runs, respectively.
After starting from 94/3, the visitors lost Travis Head (12), Usman Khawaja (81) and Alex Carey (0) in the second session.
Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. India won the first Test in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
Australia made two changes to their playing eleven, with Travis Head and Matthew Kuhnemann replacing Matthew Renshaw and Scott Boland, whereas India only made one change, with Shreyas Iyer replacing Suryakumar Yadav.
