This is undoubtedly a historic day in women’s cricket, as a new milestone has been reached. The Women’s Premier League’s debut season is expected to begin in March 2023, with auctions taking place in Mumbai. The Women’s Premier League has made significant progress and is considered to be the next big thing in women’s cricket. The auctions couldn’t have come at a better moment, with the Indian women’s squad competing in the T20 World Cup.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL), like the Indian Premier League, would bring together all of the superstars of women’s cricket under one roof to compete for the greatest glory in franchise cricket. The BCCI has taken extensive preparations to ensure the league’s success, and so far, so good. Surprisingly, the Indian vice-captain was the first to fall under the hammer during the inaugural Women’s Premier League 2023 player auction, which took place in Mumbai. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the INR 3.4 crore bid and secured the services of the Indian legend. Surprisingly, both Virat Kohli and Smriti Mandhana wear the number 18 shirt and will now play for the Bangalore franchise.
Women’s cricketers such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Yastika Bhatia, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and others reacted to their selections to different franchises and expressed their excitement about competing in the Women’s Premier League in 2023. Let’s look at some of the tweets shared by them:
