Smriti Mandhana, India’s brave opener, has been sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2023 auction in Mumbai for INR 3.4 crore. So far, Smriti has made history by being the most expensive WPL player.
The first bidder offered Rs 50 lakh for her base price. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians competed fiercely for India’s T20I vice-captain, with RCB eventually securing his services.
Smriti Madhana, one of the best women’s cricketers, can make any stadium come alive with her willow as much as she can with her looks. She never attempts to overhit the ball; instead, she extends her body forward and caresses the ball while retaining her poise.
The southpaw delivers gorgeous strokes that showcase her distinct flare and technique. She is regarded as one of the best batters in the world due to her ability to play both pace and spin.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians paid Rs 1.8 crore for India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Mumbai went all out to secure the India skipper.
While the RCB began the bid, Delhi Capitals lifted the paddle and increased its price to Rs 1.10 crore, joining the intense bidding battle against the RCB Capitals. Finally, Mumbai secured the services of the Indian captain.
There were 1,525 participants who registered for the first WPL auction, and the final list was reduced to 409 players. The inaugural season of the WPL will be contested in Mumbai from March 4 to 26 across two Mumbai locations, with the player auction taking place on February 13.
