The maiden WPL 2023 player auction is going underway. Royal Challengers Bangalore paid a staggering INR 3.4 crore for Smriti Mandhana in the opening set. Ashleigh Gardner from Australia was selected by Gujarat Giants for INR 3.2 crore. Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, was sold to the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crore. The five teams have a total of 90 slots available, with 30 reserved for international players. The highest reserve fee is INR 50 Lakhs, with 24 players opting to be in the top bracket.
There were 409 players registered for the auction, including 246 Indians and 163 international players. Players from 15 countries have registered for the auction, with prices ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 40 lakh, Rs 30 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, and Rs 10 lakh.
Each franchise has a Rs 12 crore budget and can sign a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players, including six foreign players.

The first season of the WPL will take place from March 4 to March 26, 2023.
