
The auction for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) is slated to take place in Mumbai on Monday. The inaugural Women’s Premier League Player Auction drew 1,525 registrations, with the final list reduced to over 400 players. There are 246 Indians and 163 abroad players, with 8 from associate nations among them. There are 202 capped players, 199 uncapped players, and 8 from associate nations. The five teams have a total of 90 slots available, with 30 reserved for international players.

WPL auction: What’s the purse value?
The UP Warriorz, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore are the five franchises with a maximum budget of INR 12 crore each.
Each franchise can have a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players because only 90 will be sold, with 30 reserved for abroad players, including those from the partner nations. The highest reserve price is INR 50 lakhs, with 24 Indian players and 13 international players opting to be in the top tier. Meanwhile, 30 have set their starting price at INR 40 Lakh.

Mallika Sagar was selected as the WPL auctioneer for the first time by the BCCI. Sagar specialises on modern and contemporary Indian art. She is, however, no stranger to sporting events. Sagar was the Pro Kabaddi League’s auctioneer in 2021.
