Todd Murphy will grow into a big star: Steve O’Keefe issues a message to India ahead of possible debut

Todd Murphy, the team’s youngest player, is a 22-year-old spinner from Victoria who has taken 29 wickets at an average of 25.20 in 10 first-class games.

Four Australian spinners have flown to India to compete. Leg spinner Mitchell Swepson and youngster Todd Murphy have been given a chance ahead of veteran Adam Zampa, although frontline spinners Nathan Lyon and Ashton Agar have retained their places in the crucial series.

Murphy, who is only 22 years old, might make his or her debut in the gruelling series, which premieres in Nagpur on February 9th. Former Australian spinner Steve O’Keefe lauded the off-spinner and predicted that he would become a star soon before the first Test.

Todd Murphy has a bright career ahead of him. In regards to Steve Smith, I stated this in 2010. There was clearly something special going on there. I say this about Todd Murphy because he, like Nathan Lyon, has the ability to cause the ball to overspin. He does, however, have a large arsenal of smart techniques at his disposal.

O’Keefe noted Murphy showed a wealth of expertise and oozed confidence while also possessing good skills.

“When you talk to Todd Murphy, you’d never believe he’s 22. He knows as much about cricket as I do at 38 years old. “He has a tremendous array of abilities, radiates confidence, and can put any hitter in the world to the test with his finest ball,” O’Keefe said.

According to the ex-player, Australia may elect to pair up with Lyon and Murphy at some point during the series.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Australia deployed two off-spinners at some point throughout the series. Although I expect they will continue to play Ashton Agar, don’t be surprised if Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon appear together at some time in the series “O’Keefe”.
