Why Warner is afraid for the future of Test cricket?

The 36-year-old Warner claimed that “just a small number of people have been able to achieve that and have a long and successful career (without Tests)”.

Australia opener David Warner is afraid for the future of Test cricket, noting rising players’ focus on “short-term” objectives as lucrative T20 leagues expand around the world.

Warner, who has participated in 101 Tests and more than 200 limited-overs internationals, said he has tried to create a sense of responsibility for the longest format in younger squad members, including Oliver Davies of the Sydney Thunder.

“Last week, I spoke with (Davies). He enjoys playing white-ball cricket, so I doubt he’ll ever switch to that “Warner informed the press.

“He can obviously play if he puts his mind to it.

“But I’m a little afraid of what might happen in the next 5 – 10 years and the direction that cricket will actually take.

The legacy you should want to leave behind is to play red-ball cricket and Test cricket, so I’d love for the new guys to do that.

Top Australian cricketers Tim David, Chris Lynn, and Marcus Stoinis have all had successful international T20 careers without taking part in any tests.

They were exceptional, according to Warner, and the majority of players would be better served by increasing their value in Test cricket.

The 36-year-old Warner claimed that “just a small number of people have been able to achieve that and have a long and successful career (without Tests)”.

“With all the leagues and other things going on right now, guys only think short term.

Making a name for yourself is the best method to receive value for your money.
