Throughout the history of the event, a number of teams have entered and left, and some teams’ names have changed.

The Indian Premier League is one of cricket’s premier leagues. When the Twenty20 Big Bash started in 2008 with eight clubs, it was compared to the Indian Premier League (IPL). It operated from 2005–2006 to 2011–2012. Few would have foreseen the kind of popularity and status this league would acquire, though. The IPL is currently the world’s most intense cricket league. The Indian Premier League had eight clubs when it initially started, but for its fifteenth Season in 2022, it will have ten. The Gujrat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants, which are named after the towns of Ahmedabad and Lucknow, respectively, have been added to the IPL 2022.

The Indian Premier League has had its ups and downs, but overall, it has proven to be the most prosperous T20 league in cricket. We witnessed hundreds of outstanding performances in the past seasons, and tens of thousands of emotions were felt. Check out one of the IPL’s records.

One of the favourites to win the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League was a team owned by the Deccan Chronicle, the Deccan Chargers. On their side, they had athletes like Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Andrew Symonds, Scott Styris, Chaminda Vaas and an impressionable Rohit Sharma. The team was managed by VVS Laxman. They received a nasty let-down after placing last in the tournament. The Chargers only had two victories out of their 14 games, and all seven of their subsequent games were defeats. The Rajasthan Royals put up the highest run chase against the Deccan Chargers in IPL history.

Kochi Tuskers Kerala

The Kochi Tuskers Kerala was one of the IPL’s two new teams for the competition’s fourth season. VVS Laxman, Brendon McCullum, Muttiah Muralitharan, Brad Hodge, and Ravindra Jadeja were also on the team, along with team captain Mahela Jayawardene. Due to AB de Villiers’ 54-run performance, KTK lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their IPL debut in Kochi. They won their next three games after dropping their first two, including one in which they overcame the Mumbai Indians by chasing down 183 in order to win.

P

Subrata Roy-owned Pune Warriors India was one of the two new teams added for the fourth IPL season. The team was led by Yuvraj Singh and featured players like Graeme Smith, Jesse Ryder, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, and Mitchell Marsh. However, prior to the competition, PWI lost some significant players, including Ashish Nehra, John Hastings, and Steve Smith. With victory in their first two games, Pune Warriors India had an amazing IPL 2011 season. However, just after that followed, six straight defeats. Sourav Ganguly was acquired, and the team had some success. They concluded their inaugural IPL season in ninth place. Therefore, it was too little, too late for them.

Gujarat Lions

The Gujarat Lions replaced the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2016 and 2017. Some of the team’s top players included Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhawal Kulkarni, Dwayne Smith, and Dwayne Bravo. The captain was named Suresh Raina. GL made a strong start to the 2016 IPL season with wins over Kings XI Punjab, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Mumbai Indians. All three times, Aaron Finch was chosen as the game’s MVP. Unfortunately, they suffered the largest defeat margin in IPL history—144 runs—at the hands of RCB.

Rising Pune Supergiant

Rising Pune Supergiant replaced Chennai Super Kings for two seasons after the two-time champions and Rajasthan Royals were both barred for match-fixing. The squad was known as the Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2016 IPL and featured stars like Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Faf du Plessis, Ajinkya Rahane, and Kevin Pietersen. Their captain was MS Dhoni.

By defeating the defending champion Mumbai Indians, they had a successful start to the season. However, this was swiftly followed by four straight defeats and setbacks for a number of important players, notably Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis, and Kevin Pietersen, who were all injured.
