Pakistan Cricket Board appoints ex-Test player Haroon Rasheed as new chief selector

Haroon Rasheed, a former batter from Pakistan, has been named chief selector of the national selection committee.

Haroon Rasheed, a former batter from Pakistan, has been named chief selector of the national selection committee. The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Najam Sethi, informed reporters in Lahore on Monday that Haroon will lead the new selection committee, but the remaining members will be determined later. Haroon, 69, was also selected to the PCB’s 14-member cricket management committee on December 22 by the board’s patron-in-chief, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

“Haroon has now resigned from the management committee as we don’t want a conflict of interest as he is now chief selector,” Sethi said.

Haroon, who played 23 Tests and 12 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan, retired as Director of the PCB’s High Performance Centre last year.

He has served on the board in a variety of capacities, including chief selector, manager of senior and junior teams, and head coach of senior and junior teams.

The cricket management committee chose Shahid Afridi as interim head selector immediately after Sethi took over, and Sethi wanted him to stay on a long-term basis, but the former all-rounder rejected, citing his foundation and charitable work.

Sethi also stated that talks with Mickey Arthur were still ongoing and that a decision on the next head coach of the Pakistan team would be made within the next two or three days.

“I want to make it clear I am in direct negotiations with Mickey and I think 90 percent of the discussions. We have covered many areas and very soon we may give you good news.” “If Mickey comes he will be making his own team and we will only find how much we need to pay them and this matter will be resolved in 2-3 days.” Arthur was also head coach of the Pakistan between 2016 and 2019 and his contract was not extended after the World Cup by the management of chairman, Ehsan Mani.

Arthur is presently employed for the English county of Derbyshire.
