Hardik Pandya’s dismissal in the first One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad sparked outrage on social media, with supporters furious at the third umpire. As the Indian vice-captain was ruled out, there was significant scepticism among cricket fans and even the commentary box.
The TV replays clearly indicated that the ball had missed the stumps, and it appeared that the wicket-gloves keeper’s had hit the stumps, causing the bails to flash. However, after a lengthy review, the third umpire opted to throw Hardik out, which enraged cricket fans. Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his disbelief on social media.

Hardik struck 28 runs in 38 balls as India appeared poised to break the 300-run barrier, led by Shubman Gill’s astonishing century. The event occurred during Daryl Mitchell’s 40th over of the innings. The umpire spent a long time looking behind the stumps for the keeper’s gloves, presumably persuaded that the ball had hit them.
Tom Latham clipped the stumps from his gloves again in the next over from Michael Bracewell, but this time Gill had struck a cut shot and there was no dispute about where the contact with the stumps came from. That episode was used by Ashwin as confirmation that Hardik was not -out.
Hardik had to leave after scoring 28 runs in 38 balls.
