The Indian Premier League (IPL) has consistently been a platform where the finest bowling talents from around the world have showcased their skills, often turning matches on their head within a few deliveries. While a few bowlers have enjoyed standout seasons and earned the Purple Cap for finishing as the highest wicket-taker, there exists another group of players who are equally deserving of recognition. But they never won the Purple Cap in their entire IPL career.
Here are the legends who never won the Purple Cap
Jasprit Bumrah
Despite being considered among the finest fast bowlers in world cricket, Jasprit Bumrah has never managed to win the Purple Cap. His sheer quality often makes captains more cautious in how they approach his overs, which in turn limits opportunities for him to pile up huge wicket hauls. In the 2020 season, Bumrah claimed 27 wickets but narrowly missed out, as Kagiso Rabada finished ahead with 30 wickets. Even so, his level of consistency has remained outstanding, even if the top individual bowling honour in a season has stayed out of reach.
Sunil Narine
The KKR mainstay is arguably one of the most valuable bowlers in IPL history to never win the Purple Cap. Sunil Narine is known for choking opposition batters with his exceptional control and economy rate of around 7.96. His ability to build pressure often forces mistakes from the other end, but teams tend to play him carefully, which sometimes reduces his chances of picking up large wicket hauls in a single season.
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has long been a key weapon for CSK, especially on pitches that assist spin. His tight, accurate spells consistently restrict scoring and make him one of the most economical bowlers in the league. However, his role as a control bowler means he often ends up with fewer big wicket-taking bursts, which is usually necessary to finish as the season’s highest wicket-taker, keeping the Purple Cap beyond his reach.
Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin, widely regarded as a tactical mastermind in T20 cricket, approaches bowling like a strategic battle. He is often used to control runs in the Powerplay or middle overs rather than being deployed purely as a strike bowler. While this ensures steady wicket
