PSL To IPL: Top Players Who Switched In 2026

PSL To IPL: There have been some new sources of friction within Franchise Cricket due to the increasing number of players switching leagues based on their need for immediate financial compensation from IPL compared to PSL.

In addition, more internationally recognised players have left their commitments with PSL at short notice (as was recently highlighted by the Blessing Muzarabani issue), and many players over the years have had similar situations when switching back and forth between PSL and IPL (which usually results in receiving suspensions and being involved in disputes).

5 Players Who Switched PSL to IPL In 2026

1. Blessing Muzarabani – Islamabad United to Kolkata Knight Riders

Zimbabwean bowler Blessing Muzarabani was the most recent player involved in the PSL-IPL controversy. Originally, he committed to play for Islamabad United, but instead opted to join Kolkata Knight Riders for a much larger contract. The PCB has deemed his withdrawal to be a violation of commitment. Furthermore, they have placed him on a two-year ban, resulting in him missing the PSL through to 2029.

2. Corbin Bosch – Peshawar Zalmi to Mumbai Indians

Corbin Bosch, who is an all-rounder from South Africa, became the first player to exhibit the PSL-to-IPL transfer trend in 2025. The first player to be drafted by Peshawar Zalmi withdrew after being offered an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians.

The PCB issued a one-year ban to Bosch for taking an IPL contract and this was the first official sanction against a player that took an IPL contract after having been signed under a PSL contract.

3. Dasun Shanaka – Lahore Qalandars to Rajasthan Royals

The decision by Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka’s Captain) to leave the Lahore squad immediately prior to the start of the tournament created a great deal of controversy with an official inquiry into the matter being opened by both boards (Sri Lankan and Pakistan) regarding this matter due to concerns about players’ availability.

4. Mitchell Owen – Peshawar Zalmi to Punjab Kings

Mitchell Owen, an Australian cricketer, departed from the Peshawar Zalmi team and joined Punjab Kings during the season as a replacement for injured mega-star Glenn Maxwell. His departure drew attention to the IPL’s pull factor particularly in relation to replacement contracts.

5. Spencer Johnson – Quetta Gladiators to Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings signed up Spencer Johnson, a left-arm fast bowler formerly of Quetta Gladiators (who replaced Nathan Ellis in CSK’s line-up), also to play in IPL. This once-again demonstrated an individual taking advantage of the financial and professional benefits which arise from participating in an IPL event.
