Lowest Defended Totals At Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium In IPL

Lowest Defended Totals At Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium In IPL: The Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium, also referred to as the Hyderabad (Uppal) Stadium, is located in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana State, India and has played host to many memorable cricket matches since it opened in 2004. The pitch is known to be well-balanced, thus creating the possibility for both low-scoring close finishes and very successful high-scoring chases.

The stadium is home to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and has hosted numerous matches in the IPL, with teams having relatively low totals (~125 runs) to defend.

For example, the lowest successful defence was 126 runs by SRH against Pune Warriors India in 2013. The use of spin bowlers is significant in limiting runs scored against their teams when bowling during the middle overs, when most runs are usually scored.

SRH’s Spectacular Debut Performance in the IPL

In the third match of the 2013 Indian Premier League, the Pune Warriors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Thanks to valuable contributions from Akshath Reddy (27 runs off 30 balls) and Thisara Perera (30 runs off 18 balls), SRH posted a total of 126/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Pune Warriors needed to chase their target down with a strong lineup that included Yuvraj Singh, Marlon Samuels and Ross Taylor; however, they fell behind when it was time to catch the winning run when several key players went out in the second half of the game.

Amit Mishra’s exceptional leg spin bowling kept the opposition under control, and Dale Steyn was able to clinch the victory for SRH by taking three wickets within four balls. The strength of their bowling enabled SRH to win the first-ever IPL match; 126 runs is still the lowest amount of runs to successfully defend at this venue.
