IND vs NZ: T20 World Cup Final: Three New Zealand Players Who Can Trouble India

India will take on New Zealand in the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup on Sunday (March 8) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad

India will take on New Zealand in the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup on Sunday (March 8) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both teams are coming into the match on the back of contrasting wins.

The Win

India registered a hard-fought seven-run win against England in the second semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, courtesy of some good bowling in the final five overs, while New Zealand thumped South Africa while chasing a target of 170 runs, led by Finn Allen’s record-breaking century at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The Performance

Although both India and New Zealand were clinical with the bat in their respective matches, it was the bowling that made the difference. Despite a win, the Men in Blue will have to deal with certain issues before the big game, one of which is the form of Varun Chakaravarthy.

The Form

The leg spinner has looked off colour in the last few matches and gave away 64 runs in his spell of four overs against England. The captain and the coach will have to make a decision whether to stick with him in the final or bring in Kuldeep Yadav, who is a like-for-like replacement for Chakarvarthy.

The Batting

Like the bowling, the defending champions will have to ponder upon the form of Abhishek Sharma with the bat. The left-hander has had a forgettable maiden ICC tournament so far, and it might not be a bad decision to bring Rinku in place of Abhishek Sharma with Ishan Kishan opening the innings with Sanju Samson.

The Blackcaps

New Zealand, on the other hand, might also make a change by bringing in Kyle Jamieson in place of James Neesham, who hasn’t had the best of tournaments, and the addition of Jamieson will give a potent option to Mitchell Santner in the bowling department.

The Plan

It would be interesting to see the combination of bowlers that New Zealand go in with in the final, as far as the number of spinners is concerned. Will they play include Ish Sodhi, and go with three spin bowling options in the form of captain Mitchell Santner, Cole McConchie as the other two.

Players To Watch Out For

There is no denying the fact that the pressure will be on India, with it being the home team, and the Suryakumar Yadav-led side will have to be wary of these three New Zealand players.

Finn Allen

Kiwi opening batter Finn Allen, who scored a record-breaking century against South Africa in the previous match, will look to carry the form into the important game and put on a similar performance.

Tim Seifert

Allen’s opening partner, Tim Seifert, who also notched up a half-century against South Africa, will be eager to take thefield against India in order to play a similar innings.

Mitchell Santner

As far as New Zealand’s bowling attack is concerned, the onus will be on captain Mitchell Santner, who has a history of troubling India in different formats of the game.
