The sixth season of The Hundred is just a few months away, and this time, the fans will witness a newness to the tournament, with four of the eight teams having new owners, all of whom are engaged in various leagues around the world.

The tournament, which began in 2021, saw a new concept being introduced where every team will get to play 100 legal deliveries with ten balls being bowled from one end and the captain having the option of using thesame bowler for the said period. Each bowler had the luxury of delivering a maximum of 20 balls in a match.

Although the fans, especially in England, took time to get used to the new version of cricket but have now got the taste of it, which is evident by the numbers that the league has generated both on TV and as far as the attendance at thestadium is concerned in the last couple of years.

As was the perception of people with regard to the role of spinners in T20 cricket when it started, similar speculations were made for bowlers in The Hundred, but they once again proved everyone wrong, which is evident by the fact that two of the top five highest wicket-takers in the league so far are spinners.

There is no denying the fact that the standard of fielding has gone up in all three formats of the game, which has been on show in The Hundred as well, with some spectacular catches and brilliant ground fielding, which has made the battle between bat and ball even.

The Impact
People often criticise the various T20 leagues that are emerging all over the world, with the argument being that they have had a negative impact on the techniques of the batters, as they are not able to survive in challenging conditions.
It might be true to some extent, but it doesn’t convey the truth, which is that leagues like The Hundred have helped the boards to strengthen their core, which is why we see teams being able to compete even without their first-choice players, which wasn’t the case twenty years ago.
