Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged only 14 years, has been made vice-captain of Bihar for the initial two rounds of the 2025-26 season of the Ranji Trophy. This follows Suryavanshi’s impressive performances on the international youth circuit, making him one of the youngest but most promising cricketers in the nation.
A Rising Star in Indian Cricket
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rapid ascent in cricket is proof of his skills and hard work. Although still young, he has already had an impact on Indian cricket, especially at the Under-19 level. As vice-captain of the Bihar Ranji Trophy side, it is clear he is beginning to make a name for himself in cricket in India.
International Success With India U-19
Suryavanshi’s recent feats with the India Under-19 squad on their tour of Australia were absolutely remarkable. He was an integral part of India winning the series 2-0, underlining his capability of giving fast starts to the top of the order.
His magnificent century off 78 balls in the first four-day match in Brisbane was a spectacle, and he finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the series with 133 run runs in three innings.
Prior to this, he had also made a mark on India’s tour of England with a fastest century in youth one-day internationals, an innings of 143 runs at Worcester in July 2025. With an impressive strike rate of 174.01, Suryavanshi topped the run-scorer of the series with 355 runs in five matches.
Historic IPL Debut at Age 13
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s progress was not confined to the youth ranks. In the 2025 IPL season, he became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 history, hitting a spectacular 101 off only 38 balls for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans in a match in Jaipur, a day fans will not forget.
Suryavanshi also batted very well throughout the IPL to finish with 252 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 206.55 from seven innings as an opening-order batsman.
Bihar’s Struggles and Suryavanshi’s Role
The Bihar cricket team faced a tough season in 2024-25, ending bottom of the league with zero wins and only one point from seven games. Hence, they will once again be relegated to the Plate league for the 2025-26 Ranji season, except there is hope for the state’s cricketing future with the inclusion of young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Bihar’s new season campaign starts with a game against Arunachal Pradesh at Patna on October 15 and then another showdown against Manipur in Nadiad from October 25. As Bihar looks for a comeback, Suryavanshi’s vice-captaincy role will be important in their bid to move up the rung and get back to the Elite league.

Suryavanshi’s Future: India U-19 World Cup and Ranji Trophy
Suryavanshi’s impressive reliability in both domestic and international cricket has opened up eyes about his career. He is a likely candidate for the India Under-19 team for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, so he could be busy for a part of the Ranji season. It is expected he would be missing for parts of the 2025-26 season, but the big picture is that he has tremendous potential as a future star of Indian cricket.
