As Team India prepares for the concluding match of the IND vs ENG Test series at The Oval, everyone is waiting with bated breath for Shubman Gill, who is about to write history himself. With only 11 runs left, Gill will break a 47-year-old record set by Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
Shubman Gill Sees Historic Mark in Test Series

The fifth and last Test starts on Thursday, 31st July, at the Oval, London. The series loss for India at 1-2 tells you how important this match is. The Men in Blue want to force a draw in the series by making it 2-2, with Shubman Gill leading from the front.
Gill has been impeccable throughout the series, and now he has an opportunity to enter history as a player who will go faster than Sunil Gavaskar in accumulating the most runs by an Indian captain in a Test series.
Sunil Gavaskar’s Long-Standing Record on the Line
Sunil Gavaskar had set the record for the highest runs for an Indian captain in a Test series when he scored 732 runs in the 1978-79 series against the West Indies. Shubman Gill has scored 722 runs in four games so far in the current series against England. Gill requires 11 more runs to shatter Gavaskar’s 47-year-old record. If he does, it will be an epic milestone for the young Indian captain.
Shubman Gill Nearing Don Bradman’s 90-Year-Old Record
Gavaskar’s record is not the only one at stake. Shubman Gill is also nearing Don Bradman’s mythical record for the most runs in a Test series as captain.
Bradman had scored 810 runs in the 1936-37 Ashes series against England, with an average of 90.00 off nine innings, with three centuries. If Gill can score 89 more runs in the Oval Test, he will overtake Bradman and take the record for most runs scored by a captain in a Test series.
