Namibia and South Africa will play their first-ever international match against each other later this year. The one-off T20I game will be on October 11 and will open Namibia’s new stadium in Windhoek. This will be Namibia’s first official cricket stadium. Before this, they played international matches at club grounds and the Wanderers.

The new stadium will be used for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup. Namibia and Zimbabwe will co-host the Under-19 event, while South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe will co-host the 2027 ODI World Cup.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the Windhoek ground has been under construction since 2021 and can hold 7,000 spectators.
Johann Muller on the Significance of the New Ground
“This truly is a memorable occasion,” said Johann Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia. “The new ground has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialised. A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world-class facility.”
Even though Namibia and South Africa are neighbours, they have never played an international match against each other. This historic game shows the growing relationship between their cricket boards. South Africa will also visit Zimbabwe later this year for the first time in 11 years to play two Tests and a T20I tri-series.
“We are honoured to be part of this historic occasion. Namibia are a competitive side, and this fixture reflects the growing strength of cricket on the continent. As a fellow African cricketing nation and the host of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, we are proud to support the official opening of this new cricket ground, which will be one of the host venues of the tournament,” said Cricket South Africa CEO Pholesti Moseki.
Namibia has played regularly in ICC events recently, including the last three T20 World Cups. They also had a famous win over Sri Lanka in 2022 and will aim for a historic win against South Africa in this first-ever match.
