Delhi Capitals have added a fresh face to their squad for the rest of IPL 2025. They’ve brought in Sediqullah Atal, a young talent from Afghanistan, as a replacement for Harry Brook. Brook, from England, pulled out of the tournament to manage his workload and rest for future games.

1. Played in the 2020 U19 World Cup for Afghanistan

Atal was part of Afghanistan’s Under-19 squad in the 2020 World Cup. He shared the dressing room with now well-known names like Ibrahim Zadran, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Noor Ahmad. Even though he played just two games in that tournament, he managed to score 59 runs, with a top score of 40 against South Africa.

2. Hit 7 Sixes in One Over in Kabul Premier League 2023

In the Kabul Premier League 2023, Atal showed his power-hitting skills. While leading Shaheen Hunters, he smashed seven sixes in a single over, including one on a no-ball. He finished that match unbeaten on 118 from 56 balls, helping his team post 213 and win by a huge 92-run margin. He ended the tournament as top scorer with 276 runs and also led his team to the trophy.

3. Star Performer in Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024

Atal played a key role in Afghanistan’s victory at the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. Opening the innings, he scored 368 runs in five matches and was named Player of the Tournament. One of his standout innings was an 83 off 52 balls against India, which helped his team win by 20 runs and eventually lift their first-ever title in the tournament.

4. Played for MI Cape Town in SA20 2025

Atal also featured in the SA20 2025 league. He was signed by MI Cape Town as a replacement for Ben Stokes. Though he played only three matches, he made an impact, scoring 82 runs at a strike rate of 146.42. His best knock of 74 off 46 balls came against Pretoria Capitals, who are closely connected to Delhi Capitals.

5. Impressed Against Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025

In the Champions Trophy 2025, Atal played three matches for Afghanistan, scoring 105 runs in total. His best performance came against Australia, where he scored 85 off 95 balls. Although the match was called off due to rain, Atal’s calm and confident innings helped Afghanistan post 273 runs, showing he can hold his own on big stages.
