The 55th match of the IPL 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad didn’t see a full game. After a great bowling display by SRH, rain spoiled the party, and the match was called off with no result.
SRH had won the toss and put DC in to bat first. Things looked bad for Delhi as they were 29/5 in just over 7 overs, thanks to some sharp bowling from Hyderabad. However, a late recovery saw DC finish on 133/7, giving them some hope.
But as the second innings was about to begin, rain hit the ground, and it never stopped. The umpires had no choice but to abandon the game. Both teams got 1 point each. That result ended SRH’s hopes of reaching the playoffs, while DC stayed in the race, sitting at fifth place in the points table.
IPL 2025 Playoff Scenarios: Who Still Has a Chance?
With just 15 league matches left, here’s how things are shaping up for the seven teams still fighting for a playoff spot.
1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
- Points: 16
- Net Run Rate (NRR): +0.482
RCB need just one more win to qualify for the playoffs. If they win one of their remaining games, they will finish with 18 points, which should be enough. If they win all remaining matches, they could even finish in the top two.
2. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
- Points: 15
- NRR: +0.376
Punjab need to win 2 out of their last 3 games to guarantee a playoff spot. Winning all 3 might even push them into the top two. If they lose all their remaining matches, they’ll need luck and other results to stay alive.
3. Mumbai Indians (MI)
- Points: 14
- NRR: +1.274
MI have been on fire, winning their last six matches. They need two more wins from three games to qualify. If they win all 3, they’ll have 20 points, which could get them into the top two. But if they lose all, they are out.
4. Gujarat Titans (GT)
- Points: 14
- NRR: +0.867
GT have four games left, which gives them more chances. Two wins should be enough to reach the playoffs. With 16 points and their good NRR, they still have a strong chance. Losing all 4 will end their hopes.
5. Delhi Capitals (DC)
- Points: 13
- NRR: +0.362
DC started the season well but have lost momentum. They now need to win all 3 of their remaining games to confirm qualification. They might still get through with 15 or 17 points, but that would need other results to go their way.
6. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
- Points: 11
- NRR: +0.249
KKR are still alive thanks to two close wins. They need to win all 3 remaining matches to finish on 17 points and then hope other teams slip up. A 15-point finish may not be enough, unless they get lucky.
7. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
- Points: 10
- NRR: -0.469
LSG’s chances are slim. Even if they win all 3 matches and reach 16 points, their poor NRR makes it hard. They’ll also need several other results to go in their favor. Their fate is now mostly out of their hands.
