India’s Rishabh Pant, batting in the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at MCG, was a victim of an unfortunate dismissal. He attempted an ill-focused shot towards the third man and paid the price with his wicket which led to a constant tirade from Sunil Gavaskar.
The latter, in live commentary, was not shy of using foul language to describe Pant’s choice of shot as “stupid, stupid, stupid.” Still scathing in his comments, Gavaskar added that it was an extra risk taken by Pant that cost him his wicket, a decision that went against the team’s performance considering there were already two fielders there.

“Stupid, stupid, STUPID! You’ve got two fielders there, and you still go for that. You missed the last shot, and look where you’ve been caught. That is wasting your wicket,” Gavaskar had remarked while commentating on ABC Sport.
