
New Zealand emerged victorious in a revenge match against Sri Lanka in a T20I match held on 16 March. The game was a part of the three-match T20I series as part of the Sri Lanka Women’s tour of New Zealand in 2025. The series includes three T20 International matches; the first match was played on 14 March 2025, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious.
New Zealand, on the other hand, was able to take their revenge as they defeated their opponent in today’s match that concluded just a few hours ago. Similar to the first match, where Sri Lankans won by 7 wickets, the Kiwis also won by 7 wickets, and the next and final match of the tour is scheduled for 18 March 2025 at the University Oval in Dunedin. The final match will decide the winner of this tour, making it a much-anticipated game.
Today’s match was played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch at 10:15 local time. The New Zealand women won the toss and decided to bowl first. SRI Lanka managed to gather 113 runs in seven wickets in 20 overs, and the Kiwis successfully chased the score in just 18.3 overs with three wickets. This game leveled the outcome of the tour until now, and the winner of the next match scheduled on 18 March will win the tour.

The top scorer of the Sri Lankan team was Manudi Nanayakkara, who scored 35 runs, and Nilakshika Silva, who scored 20 runs. The top scorer of the New Zealand team was Suzie Bates, who scored 47 runs, and Bernadine Bezuidenhout, who scored 46 runs. Suzie was also named the player of the match.
Sri Lanka women struggled to build a significant partnership, leading to their low score, while New Zealand’s Suzue Bates led the chase with a crucial 47 runs, while Bernadine remained unbeaten with 46 runs to claim the victory. It will be interesting to see whether or not New Zealand is successful in defending their winning streak or if Sri Lanka takes away the spotlight by winning the final match.
