DC’s Sensational Bowling stops MI Down to 123/9 in WPL 2025

After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Delhi Capitals’ bowlers delivered a stellar performance to restrict Mumbai Indians to a modest total of 123 for 9 in their 20 overs.
The bowling attack spearheaded by Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani took three wickets each, playing a crucial role in dismantling MI’s batting lineup. Timely inputs from Shikha Pandey, a seasoned pacer, and young all-rounder Annabel Sutherland came in form of one wicket apiece.
The Mumbai innings never had any kind of momentum going, with just a few players managing to score in double figures. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur became the shining light at MI’s batting, top-scoring with 22 runs, while Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt chipped in 22 runs and 18 runs, respectively. Towards the end, Amanjot Kaur contributed a quick 17 off 10 balls in guiding MI to a total of 123 for nine, still far below par.
DC’s Dominant Pursuit Led by Captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma

Chasing a modest target of 124 runs, Delhi Capitals made light work of the chase with an outstanding partnership between Shafali Verma and captain Meg Lanning.
The openers set the tone very early; both batters took aggressive strokes to dominate the proceedings. Shafali’s 43 off 28 batters were the perfect start, making it easy for her to collect boundaries, including two sixes.
Resurgence for Lanning, who had struggled for form earlier in the season; led her side ever so close to a target. She went on to make 60 not out off 49 balls, a calculating and calm knock that gave DC stability in the chase. In this knock, Lanning’s boundaries come at the right moment as she led the game to perfection.
The only wicket to fall in the chase was Shafali, who was caught at deep midwicket for 43. By that time, the game was almost sorted. Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues finished it off in 14.3 overs, adding a partnership of 15 runs very quickly. The victory margin for DC was a thumping nine wickets.
Key Performances: Bowlers and Batters Shine for DC

In the same breath, MI’s innings saw an excellent display by Delhii’s bowlers. Jonassen and Mani surged ahead and were respective wicket-takers with three irons on hitters from MI. From there, Pandey and Sutherland added more value with their disciplined bowling, applying pressure upon MI.
With the bat on, the board saw a clinical opening partnership in the form of Lanning. The captain, Lanning, showed a calm head and took her team at the top of the points table with her match-winning 60*. Shafali’s explosive start paved the way for the chase, and Rodrigues finished it off such that there precisely was no strain on DC.
