Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has enriched its coaching staff for IPL 2025 by naming ex-India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram as their assistant bowling coach. This is part of CSK’s plan to strengthen their bowling coach, which already has some of cricket’s most experienced names.
Abundance of Coaching Experience
Sridharan boasts a rich amount of coaching experience, having guided numerous international squads and franchise-based cricket teams. His most senior coaching stint was with the Australian national team as an assistant coach from 2016 to 2022. Sriram was exposed to tremendous experience working among elite cricketers during his tenure with Australia, helping the team achieve great success in numerous formats.
After leaving his job in Australia, he shifted to franchise cricket and took up the role of head coach at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Besides, he was the T20 consultant for Bangladesh for the 2022 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, which added to his international coaching experience. In 2023, he became an assistant coach for Lucknow Super Giants for the upcoming IPL season and continued working with Bangladesh as a technical consultant ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Amongst other recognitions, Sriram has been assistant coach to the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in a further step towards a diversified IPL experience.
Strengthening CSK’s Spin Department
Sriram will, under his new role with CSK’s bowling coaching staff for IPL 2025, lend his hand-endeavor-however little-it might just help, to culling any slow bowling unit. CSK next year would have some proficient spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal, and Noor Ahmad. Deepak Hooda and Rachin Ravindra will also be spin-bowling allrounders, giving the team a strong spin attack.
With his expertise, Sriram will provide much-needed honing of the skills of CSK spinners so that they can adapt to different match scenarios and strategies during tournament play. With extensive experience working with various spinners across the world, he is well-placed to lead the talented spin group in IPL 2025.
CSK’s previous season performance with the expectations for the IPL 2025
After conceding mediocre games in the IPL 2024, CSK hopes for a stronger IPL 2025. Packed fifth in the group stage, CSK ended with seven wins and seven losses just short of making it to the playoffs. Even though CSK was tied with RCB for fourth place, their net run rate did not allow for a top-four finish.
The franchise is very keen to make a comeback-featured by captain MS Dhoni along with his band of old zealers like Sriram.
Forward to IPL 2025
The 2025 IPL will start on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) playing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the inaugural match in Kolkata. CSK’s inaugural game will be played the next night when they welcome Mumbai Indians (MI) to their home ground. With a new member of the coaching team and a pool of quality players, CSK will hope to bounce back from their 2024 setback and fight for the championship in IPL 2025.
