In the second semi-final played on Friday, New Zealand defeated West Indies by 8 runs on the strength of their spinners.

The excellent bowling of Eden Carson and Amelia Carr also overshadowed the amazing all-round performance of Deandra Dottin of West Indies and took the Kiwi team to the final after 14 years. Earlier, the team had reached the finals of both the World Cups in 2009 and 2010 but had to face defeat both times. On the other hand, West Indies’ dream of winning the title for the second time was shattered.

In this low-scoring semi-final match WI W vs NZ W in Sharjah on Friday, October 18, the batsmen of both the teams had to struggle to score runs. New Zealand batted first and could score only 128 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Although the New Zealand team had scored 48 runs in the first 8 overs, but after that, the pace of runs started slowing down and at one time it seemed difficult for the team to reach even 120 runs. At such a time, Brooke Halliday hit 18 runs in just 9 balls, while Isabella Gage also took the team to this level by scoring 20 runs in 14 balls. The main reason for the Kiwi team not being able to reach a big score was Dottin, who conceded only 22 runs in 4 overs and took 4 wickets.

Out of these, 3 were taken by spinner Carson (3/29). The fifth wicket also fell at 63 runs in the 14th over and in such a situation, all the responsibility fell on the experienced batsman Dottin. Dottin also hit 3 sixes in a single over to bring the team back and raise hopes of victory.

Then in the 17th over, spinner Amelia Carr (2/14) turned the match around. Dottin (33 runs, 22 balls) was out while trying to hit a six off her ball and the Windies team’s hopes were dashed. After this, New Zealand took control of the match and restricted West Indies to 120 runs and won the match by 8 runs.

With this, the New Zealand team has reached the final of the T20 World Cup for the third time. This time the team will hope to win its first title but it faces a very difficult challenge from South Africa, which surprised everyone by defeating the biggest title contender Australia in the semi-finals.
