These Batters Hit Most T20I Runs in 2022. Can They Smash More In T20 World Cup?

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan tops the chart while Suryakumar Yadav is second on the list

Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan has been a major revelation in the past few years. The opening batter has shocked the cricket world with his remarkable consistency. It was not different in 2022. The Pak star scored 821 runs from 18 innings so far. Rizwan stands a chance to finish the year with 1000 T20I runs. He has hit 50 or more runs in nine out of the 18 innings this year. It speaks volumes about his top gear ahead of the World Cup.

Another top performer in 2022 is India’s number 4 batter, Suryakumar Yadav. This Mumbai cricketer accomplished a lot of magic in his two-year-old international career. Yadav is already named in Wisden’s all-time T20 eleven for the Men in Blue. This aggressive batter has amassed 801 runs from 23 innings at an average of 40. Yadav’s strike rate is a colossal 184.56, and it makes him a fearsome prospect for any bowler in the World Cup.

Babar Azam, Nicolas Pooran, Devon Conway, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma are some of the other top-scoring players in T20Is in 2022. However, they have not been as consistent as Rizwan and Yadav.

Can the duo repeat the show in World Cup?

Rizwan and Yadav have the potential to end up as the tournament’s leading run-scorers. But the duo would probably need to be mindful of the Australian wickets. The pitches aren’t too supportive of batting and bouncers would be a major weapon.

This demands the need for a fearless approach, plus a positive attitude to excel in the Aussie conditions. Earlier, Surya played a standalone knock of 117 off 55 balls in the England series. It came against a sharp England bowling and was one of the best knocks in 2022.

Rizwan, too, has been consistently proving his batting worth in New Zealand, UAE, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. He plays a more cautious game at the start and goes into attack mode after he settles his innings. Aussie pitches are ideal for his running game.

Other contenders for the top run-scorer spot

Two-time player of the tournament, Virat Kohli, dashing England opener Jos Buttler, and Aussie superstar David Warner are some of the other major contenders for the top run scorer chart.

Meanwhile, Indian opener KL Rahul and South Africa’s Aiden Markram also have a chance to top in the tournament and take the teams forward. So, who will top the run charts this year? We never know! Because cricket is an uncertain game, and any new name may also surprise us this year.
