Finally, Indian Bowlers Deliver In Death Overs Against South Africa

Mohammed Siraj is the pick of the Indian bowlers with three wickets

Indian bowlers registered an improved show in the second ODI against South Africa, in terms of death bowling. Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Avesh Khan conceded less than 70 runs in the last ten overs versus the Proteas. It is also interesting to note that Thakur and Khan are not regular members of the team.

They worked in unison and contained the South African batters. The Indian pacers conceded only two fours in the last ten overs of the match. The most expensive over which was bowled in the entire innings was a 12-run over bowled by Shardul Thakur. This performance will improve the confidence of the team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

What went right for Indian bowlers?

Instead of experimenting, Indian pacers went for hard yorkers, and today, most of the balls were on target. It really helped the team to contain the South African batters from scoring too many runs. David Miller, who is feared by bowlers for his explosive batting, was contained for most part of the game by Indian bowlers. He could only score four boundaries in the 34 balls which he faced, scoring 35 runs.

Mohammed Siraj, who shared the new ball, became the pick of the Indian bowlers. The Hyderabadi speedster bagged three wickets for 38 runs in his quota of ten overs. His economy rate of fewer than 4 runs per over, was one of the best performances by an Indian pacer in recent times.

Shardul Thakur, who is playing the game as a batting all-rounder bowled only five overs. He went for 36 runs and scalped a wicket. Meanwhile, Avesh Khan had a day where he bowled seven overs and went wicketless for 35 runs.

India is improving

From what we saw in the second ODI, the team is showing signs of improvement in its concerned area. Previously, India conceded plenty in death overs, during the Asia Cup, and major T20 series played recently.

Even though India is going with a new bunch of pacers for the World Cup, they will take confidence from this show. They will hope for a positive result in the showpiece event.
