What is happening to Indian pacers? It is a question that would hit a cricket fan, because of the series of injuries occurring every day. The latest player to join the long injury list is Deepak Chahar. The 30-year-old pacer suffered stiffness in the back after the third T20I against South Africa.
JUST IN: Washington Sundar named replacement for Deepak Chahar for the remainder of the ODI series vs South Africa.

Team India replaced the pacer with Washington Sundar for the remaining ODIs. Incidentally, the Agra pacer is the fourth player who reported back injuries in the past one or two months. Recovered players, Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are not counted in this list. It speaks volumes about the injury issue the Indian team pacers are facing.
Why Indian pacers are struggling with back problems?
A major reason Indians struggle is that they overdo it. in the attempt to increase the pace, they hit the deck really hard. This is done by putting more effort into the shoulder. Some players may look for more than their optimum. This would put their bodies at risk.

Another reason for the back injuries is the increased number of games. It means they have to attend more and more practice sessions. It leads to a further toll on the body, as there is a lack of time for taking rest and to heal the body.
Has the @BCCI got something against @umran_malik_01 ? Now that even Deepak Chahar is injured, surely this was the time to bring Umran in? Umran's Pace can destroy any batsman in the world…! pic.twitter.com/EACFlwhlWp

The third reason is the absence of early detection of injuries. Even though BCCI has set up a player monitoring system to track injuries, there are still cases that go unnoticed. It is something the top cricket body in India needs to look at, seriously.
What’s next?
Deepak Chahar will undergo a rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy. The team will have to set up a strong injury management scheme to avoid repeating such instances in the future.
