The Indian think tank has reputedly contracted two top pacers to serve as Jasprit Bumrah’s
backups for the ICC World T20 in 2022.

Team India is reportedly considering sending speed merchants Mohammed Siraj and Umran
Malik as substitutes for the ICC World T20 2022 in Australia because they are concerned about
the fitness of pace ace Jasprit Bumrah. The Rohit Sharma-led Team India, which won the
inaugural ICC tournament, was dealt a severe blow on Friday when speedster Bumrah was
forced to withdraw from the present South Africa series in preparation for the T20 World Cup.

For the remaining three T20I matches between the Proteas and the Indian hosts, the Rahul
Dravid-coached team signed Siraj. Stress fracture has prevented Bumrah from playing in the
South Africa T20Is. He missed the entire Asia Cup edition. On Sunday, South Africa will play a
home game against the Men in Blue. Three weeks from now, Team India will begin its World
Cup campaign.

Bumrah is doubtful for the T20 World Cup in Australia at this time; hence Team India is likely
to bring at least two additional fast bowlers to the ICC event to serve as Bumrah’s backups. Fast bowlers Siraj and Malik are scheduled to fly to Perth on October 6 with the Rohit-led India team; it has been reported through a SportStar report. The team led by Dravid will practice for a week
before flying to Brisbane. On October 17, India is expected to play its first away match.

Earlier reports indicated that Bumrah would not play in the T20 World Cup after the pacer was
unable to play in the South Africa series due to a back injury. Bumrah has a back injury, and the
top pacer is being monitored by the medical staff, according to Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Friday. On October 23, India’s Rohit-led World Cup
campaign will get underway in Melbourne against arch-rival Pakistan.
