In a setback for India, batsman Shubman Gill will be absent from the field on Day 4 of the second Test against England due to an injury to his right index finger sustained while fielding on Day 2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The 24-year-old’s non-participation is a significant loss for India, particularly as they lose their most reliable slip catcher for the remainder of the innings. Shubman Gill, who impressively took four catches in England’s first innings, seemed to have batted through the pain with an injured finger during his third Test century on the third day.
Despite Gill’s absence, India has set England a daunting target of 399 for victory, a record fourth-innings target in India. This formidable total was built on the foundation of Shubman Gill’s century and crucial contributions from Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin. India’s second innings concluded at 255 on Sunday.
As of the report, England stands at 82-1 in their pursuit of the challenging target, requiring 317 more runs to win. Zak Crawley (34*) and Rehan Ahmed (19*) are currently at the crease.
India, aiming for nine wickets, is striving to level the five-match series by winning the second Test after England’s first-innings total of 82-1. The match hangs in the balance as both teams seek a crucial victory.
