When the Big Bash League was launched in the 2011–2012 season, the Adelaide Strikers were one of the original eight clubs. The team sought to leave its imprint in the recently formed T20 league under the bat for South Australia, Michael Klinger. They came in fourth place, just missing out on a semi-final spot. The Strikers advanced to the semifinals of their second 2012–2013 season but lost to the Perth Scorchers. Although they had shown some promise, they were yet to win their first BBL championship. The Strikers had a difficult 2013–2014 season, finishing in sixth place and missing the playoffs. For the team, it was a season of reconstruction and introspection. The Strikers made a successful comeback in the 2014–15 season, placing third overall and earning a spot in the semifinals. However, the Sydney Sixers once more prevented them from competing in the championship game.

The squad showed consistency for the second consecutive season by placing third in the league standings. Despite their best efforts, they were once again defeated by the Sydney Thunder in the semi-finals. The Adelaide Strikers made it to the BBL final for the first time in their history during a remarkable 2016-2017 season. They were coached by Jason Gillespie and commanded by Travis Head. The Strikers prevailed in an exhilarating final match against the Perth Scorchers to win their first BBL championship. The Strikers, the reigning champions, had a strong season in 2017–2018 and advanced to the semifinals. However, they were unable to match their title-winning performance and lost to the Melbourne Renegades, who went on to win the championship. 

The Strikers made it to the semi-finals in the 2018–19 season, but they lost to the Melbourne Stars and were unable to continue to the final. The Strikers placed second in the league table during the 2019–2020 season, but the Sydney Thunder defeated them in the semifinals. During the 2020–2021 season, the Strikers suffered disappointment when the Brisbane Heat eliminated them from the knockout stage after a great showing in the group stage. The Strikers placed fourth in this 2021–2022 season and made it to the playoffs, however, they were unable to advance past the elimination round.
