Despite a resilient overnight score of 410/7, India faced an early setback in their first innings, managing only 428. The bowlers, however, swiftly turned the tide, claiming two crucial wickets as England reached 67/2 at lunch.

Pacers Renuka Singh Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar made impactful contributions, dismissing opener Sophia Dunkley and skipper Heather Knight, respectively. At lunch, Nat Sciver-Brunt stood unbeaten at 35, with Tammy Beaumont on six.

India’s skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, strategically introduced spin with Sneh Rana, whose disciplined bowling set the stage for Renuka Singh Thakur’s maiden Test wicket. The breakthrough moment occurred when Renuka’s delivery skillfully breached the gap between bat and pad, crashing into the middle stump, leaving England at 13/1.

Pooja Vastrakar continued the momentum, removing the experienced Heather Knight at 28/2. Despite the early advantage, loose deliveries from the Indian bowlers allowed Nat Sciver-Brunt to capitalize, scoring an unbeaten 35 with seven boundaries.

Earlier in the day, India’s first innings concluded swiftly, adding seven runs to Deepti Sharma’s overnight score, reaching a total of 428. England, however, showcased resilience with the ball, cleaning up the Indian tail. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone secured three wickets each, with Lauren Bell emerging as the most successful bowler with figures of 3-67.
