During the WPL Auction, Delhi Capitals secured Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland after an intense bidding war. Sourav Ganguly explains the rationale behind the acquisition, stating, “We have heard good things about her. These small auctions are always like that. Very little spots to fill and there’s someone who’ll always break the bank.”
Delhi also reacquired uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Aparna Mondal and signed all-rounder Ashwani Kumari. Sourav Ganguly discusses the strategic choices, emphasizing the importance of a backup keeper and the power-hitting ability of Ashwani Kumari.
Regarding the involvement of Meg Lanning in the auction strategy, Ganguly highlights her significant role in women’s cricket and her commitment to the franchise. Ganguly remains optimistic about WPL 2024 but emphasizes the unpredictability of T20 cricket, stating, “It’s too early to say. Let the tournament start. T20 cricket, you never know which way it goes.”
As the former BCCI President, Ganguly looks forward to Delhi Capitals continuing their good form from the previous year, hoping for success in the upcoming Women’s Premier League.
