Australia’s Cricket Star Alyssa Healy Set for Test Return in India Tour

Alyssa Healy gears up for a triumphant comeback, eyeing the Mumbai Test in Australia’s tour of India, shares her journey back after a finger injury.

Australia’s prominent wicketkeeper-batter, Alyssa Healy, is gearing up for a triumphant return to competitive cricket as she anticipates joining the team for the upcoming tour of India, commencing with a one-off Test in Mumbai on December 21.

Healy’s last on-field appearance was in October during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Unfortunately, an injury to her right index finger, sustained while intervening in a scuffle between her dogs, led to her missing the rest of the WBBL and necessitated surgery.

Expressing her determination, Healy stated, “I assume I’ll be out there (for the first Test in Mumbai), they’re going to have to do a lot to stop me walking out there and catching the first delivery.” She confirmed her progress, revealing, “Everything’s going well. I started back in the nets the last week-and-a-half, so I’m all on track to fly to India on Wednesday for a big series over there.”

Alyssa Healy is on the verge of assuming the role of Australia’s new captain, following Meg Lanning’s unexpected retirement from international cricket. Healy has been leading the team in Meg’s absence for the past 18 months, including during this year’s Ashes in England.

Reflecting on the potential captaincy, Healy expressed, “If it was me, it’d be unbelievably exciting. I feel like I’ve been warming the seat for 18 months for Meg to come back, and, with Meg’s news, it was a bit of a shock.”

The upcoming four-day Test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai holds historical significance as Australia plays a Test in India for the first time since 1984. The tour will also feature a three-game ODI series and a three-match T20I series between the two teams.
