Shreyanka Patil Stellar Year Culminates in International Debut

The year 2023 has proven to be a breakthrough for off-spin all-rounder Shreyanka Patil, who gained recognition through stellar performances in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), and the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup.

On Wednesday, Shreyanka reached a new height in 2023 by making her international debut in the T20I series opener against England at the Wankhede Stadium. Displaying her bowling prowess, she claimed figures of 2/44, dismissing captain Heather Knight and wicketkeeper Amy Jones, although she missed a return catch of Player of the Match Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Expressing her joy, Shreyanka stated, “I was very happy to get the (India) cap. I was a bit nervous and excited initially, but after the first few balls, I felt at ease, knowing that I belonged there. It’s just a learning step, and we will bounce back stronger in the next game.”

Reflecting on the match, she acknowledged the challenge of bowling on a batting-friendly wicket and emphasized the need for improvement in fielding. Shreyanka Patil credited her experience with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the WPL for valuable lessons, playing alongside and against cricket legends.

Looking forward, Shreyanka Patil emphasized her focus on refining her skills daily. She expressed her determination to excel, mentioning the importance of accurate practice at a high level and the ongoing learning phase in executing plans effectively.

Regarding her missed catch of Nat Sciver-Brunt, Shreyanka acknowledged that such situations happen in cricket but highlighted the significance of accurate planning and execution with experience. She revealed specific scenario-based practices undertaken with her coach Arjun Dev.

Shreyanka concluded by acknowledging her room for improvement, especially in bowling death overs, despite a commendable personal performance. She recognized the challenge of death bowling but expressed her commitment to work on it and return stronger in the next game.
