Ish Sodhi confident in New Zealand’s rebound ahead of 2nd test against Bangladesh

Ish Sodhi’s optimistic as New Zealand aims for redemption in the second Test against Bangladesh after a tough defeat in the first encounter.

Ish Sodhi, the New Zealand leg-spinner, remains hopeful about his team’s resurgence heading into the second Test against Bangladesh.

In the initial clash in Sylhet, Bangladesh displayed formidable form and secured a convincing 150-run victory over New Zealand. Despite a slight lead in the first innings, the Kiwis couldn’t match the Tigers’ prowess, suffering a comprehensive defeat.

However, Sodhi maintains an optimistic outlook for the upcoming final Test in Mirpur. He anticipates the team’s ability to swiftly overcome the setback, as reported by ICC.

“The team has a history of swiftly moving past both successes and losses over the past decade,” Sodhi stated. “While it’s tough to absorb the loss in the initial game at Sylhet, I believe we discovered a better rhythm as the Test progressed.”

Sodhi’s performance in the first Test was below par, securing three wickets with an average of 48.33. Despite this, he remains confident in New Zealand’s adaptability.

“Given my limited Test cricket exposure recently, these conditions were always going to be challenging,” he admitted. “When the New Zealand team comes together, the key lies in how rapidly we adjust to the format.”

The Black Caps bowler also emphasized gleaning lessons from Bangladesh’s triumph in the initial game.

“Bangladesh’s style of play clearly outmatched us. Yet, upon reflection, their strategy provides a blueprint for success in these conditions, which we hope to implement in the upcoming Test,” remarked Sodhi.

“For us, it’s about building partnerships and refining accuracy. Hopefully, as a bowling unit, we can synchronize better over the next few days.”

The second Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand commences on December 6.
