The eminent South African finisher, David Miller was announced as the captain of Paarl Royals which was a Rajasthan Royals owned franchise in CSA T20 league. JP Duminy was the head coach of the team and was also a veteran all-rounder of South Africa. It will be interesting to see how the aggressive approach of David Miller and the balanced gameplay of Duminy will find their match.
Paarl Royals was recently owned by the top management of Rajasthan Royals a few weeks back. In this edition of Cricket South Africa T20 league all the teams were owned by the IPL franchises. And the respective stars of their teams in IPL are mostly named as the captains of the teams in CSA T20 cricket.
The strong domestic structure of cricket in South Africa resulted in the continuous flow of talented players for the national side. AB de Villiers and Graeme Smith are considered as the idols in the country and also the young Cricketers who have dreams to become like them. This will be the most important thing to look at how this league will gain popularity and authenticity in world cricket.
Currently the Indian Premier League is the biggest T20 league in terms of popularity and market cap. After its other old players in the business like BBL, PSL and T-10 League of Dubai make their place in the list. Not all national team players are allowed to play in overseas cricket tournaments. Like Indian players are only allowed to appear in English County cricket for only a few games, except that they can’t play in any other county league of the world.
So, while David Miller was announced as the captain of Paarl Royals JP Duminy said, “David is one of the most passionate players you will meet, and his reading of the situations is something that will be very valuable to us. Over the last year or so, he has developed a killer instinct wherein he is finishing matches for his team – we’ve seen that in the IPL and for South Africa as well. Hence, we are delighted to have such an experienced player as our leader, and more importantly, someone who has a calm head on his shoulders”.
