Sri-Lanka, the new champions of Asia, named their 15 members squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Dasun Shanaka will lead the team in the tournament while Bhanuka Rajapaksa will be his deputy, Skipper. Shanaka postma successfully led the team in the whole Asia Cup tournament. Sri-Lankan team defeated the stalwarts like India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the championship.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa played match winning knock of 71*(45) in the grand finale of the tournament, so he will be the crucial man in the whole batting line of Lanka. The openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis don’t have any prior significant experience of Australian conditions, so it would be interesting to see how they will come up with the circumstances. In the group stage, the Sri Lankan side will have competitors like Australia, England and New Zealand. For that they have to pick up right playing 11 team which would be based on all game factors after taking them into consideration.
Firstly, they will have to play the qualification matches against UAE and associate nation teams, to officially qualify for the tournament. But after looking at their winning momentum they should easily qualify for the World T20. Talented players like Nuwan Tushara and Asitha Fernando will miss the tournament as they will have to prove themselves for getting a permanent place in the national team.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Jeffrey Vanderssey are the two leg spinners placed in the squad. In the bowling department Dilshan MadhuShanka and Chamika Karunaratne will have the job to extract the most from the bouncer tracks of Australia. While in the batting unit Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka should prepare themselves for finishing off the innings properly while batting at the position of lower middle order.
