
The Mumbai Indians, who clinched the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 championship, have announced the retention of 13 players for the upcoming WPL 2024 season, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur leading the retained players. Among those retained are Hayley Matthews, who was crowned the Most Valuable Player of WPL 2023, and Purple Cap recipient Yastika Bhatia. Natalie Sciver-Brunt, named Player of the Final, is also among the retained players.
The Mumbai Indians have retained a total of 13 players, including five overseas players: Amelia Kerr, Isabelle Wong, Chloe Tryon, Hayley Matthews, and Natalie Sciver-Brunt.
As part of their retention strategy, the Mumbai Indians have released players Heather Graham, Dhara Gujjar, Sonam Yadav, and Neelam Bisht. They have spent INR 11.4 crore, with a salary cap of INR 2.1 crore remaining to fill the remaining available slots. Currently, the team has five slots available, including one for overseas players.
In total, 60 players, including 21 overseas cricketers, were retained across the five franchises. The retention window closed on October 15, with 29 players being released from their existing squads, according to BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah.
The Delhi Capitals Women’s team, which finished as runners-up in WPL 2023, has retained 15 play ers, including five overseas players. Their retained players include Alice Capsey, Jemimah Rodrigues, Jess Jonassen, Laura Harris, Marizanne Kapp, Meg Lanning, and Minnu Mani. The team has spent INR 11.25 crore and has INR 2.25 crore remaining in their purse for filling the remaining slots.

Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, retained the fewest number of players, with eight players secured. Their retained players include Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Dayalan Hemalatha, Harleen Deol, and Laura Wolvaardt. The team has spent INR 7.55 crore and still has INR 5.95 crore remaining in their budget for acquiring players to fill the remaining slots.
