New Zealand dominates the powerplay

Chasing the target of 283 runs put by England, New Zealand started poorly losing Will Young for a golden duck on the first ball of the second over. Sam Curran dismissed who was trying to clip a leg-side ball to the fine-leg boundary but only managed to edge it to Jos Buttler behind the stumps. Rachin Ravindra batting at three for New Zealand pounced on the poor bowling from Chris Woakes. Ravindra had two fours in Woakes’ second over and once again in the third over, he hit two boundaries. Curran who started with a wicket-maiden and another maiden leaked 10 runs in his third over. Mark Wood was brought into the attack  Ravindra smashed him for a four and a six to score 17 runs off his first over. Devon Conway and Ravindra dominated the powerplay as the Kiwis scored 81 runs in the first 10 overs.

The end of the powerplay did not put a stop to New Zealand’s attacking play as Conway hit a four and a six off Mark Wood’s bowling in the 11th over of the innings. Ravindra brought up his half-century with a six in the 12th over. In the 13th over, Conway too completed his half-century with a four. Adil Rashid was brought in the attack but the attack from the New Zealand batters did not stop as they scored 18 runs off his first two overs.
