The highly-anticipated India-Pakistan Super Four stage match in the Asia Cup, scheduled for September 10 in Colombo, will have a reserve day to account for potential rain interruptions. The decision comes after the previous encounter between the two teams during the league stage in Pallekele was abandoned due to persistent rain.
In an official statement from the tournament organizers, it was confirmed, “A reserve day has been incorporated for the Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4’s match between Pakistan vs India scheduled to take place on 10th September 2023 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.”
“In case adverse weather conditions suspend play during the Pak vs India game, the match will continue on 11th September 2023 from the point it was suspended. In such an eventuality, ticket-holders are advised to retain their match tickets, which will remain valid and will be used for the reserve day.”
This arrangement implies that if the India-Pakistan match extends to September 11, it will lead to a three-day consecutive period of play for Rohit Sharma & Co., as they are also slated to face Sri Lanka at the same venue on September 12.
Notably, there has been no mention of a reserve day for the remaining Super Four matches in the competition, including India’s last game in this stage against Bangladesh on September 15.
Initially, there were concerns about hosting Asia Cup matches in Colombo due to a forecast of heavy rain, with the possibility of relocating to a drier location like Hambantota. However, the tournament organizers decided to stick with their original plan.
Additionally, the tournament organizers announced a reduction in ticket prices for Lower Blocks ‘C’ and ‘D’ of the RPICS Colombo during the Super Four Stage of the Asia Cup. These reduced prices, at LKR 1000 per ticket, will be applicable for games scheduled on September 9, 12, 14, and 15. However, for the high-profile clash between Pakistan and India on September 10 and the tournament finals, ticket prices for the respective blocks will remain at their originally set levels.
