India Announces Squad for 2023 ODI World Cup: Rohit Sharma to Lead, KL Rahul Included
India has unveiled its squad for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, with Rohit Sharma appointed as captain and Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy for this prestigious tournament.
The squad features several key players, including KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom have returned to the Indian team after recovering from injuries. India’s core team comprises the likes of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, as they set their sights on clinching their second ODI World Cup title on home soil. India’s last ODI World Cup triumph took place in 2011, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Notably, Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Varma, who were part of the Asia Cup squad, did not make the final cut for the World Cup. Sanju Samson, too, missed out on selection.
While the deadline for submitting the World Cup squad to the ICC is September 5, teams can make changes until September 28 without requiring ICC approval. India has three more ODIs against Australia following the Asia Cup, providing an opportunity to give Rahul and Iyer valuable game time.
India will commence its World Cup campaign on October 8, facing Australia at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
