While a Yo-Yo score of 17.2 might not be ground breaking, it reflects Kohli’s relentless pursuit of excellence. It’s worth noting that during his captaincy, when the yo-yo test was mandatory for selection in the Indian men’s cricket team, Kohli himself achieved a score of 19. Although the current passing standard is 16, Kohli’s score remains remarkably high.

Although passing the yo-yo test is no longer obligatory to play for India, Kohli’s commitment to self-improvement remains unwavering, driving him to conquer the fitness challenge.

The Yo-Yo Test: Unveiling the Fitness Challenge In the Yo-Yo test, athletes run between two cones placed 20 meters apart, responding to increasing beeps by reaching the cone before the next beep sounds. The test involves a player running to and from the cones, with beep frequency escalating in each round. Success is determined by the player’s ability to complete the shuttle run within the set parameters.

The test begins at speed level 5, with one shuttle. Subsequent levels increase in speed and shuttle quantity. Each level sees eight shuttles, with players required to meet the criteria set by their respective teams.

While different teams have varying standards, India currently mandates a qualifying speed level of 16:1. This entails completing the first shuttle of speed level 16, amounting to a total distance of 1120 meters.

As per reports, World Cup probables will undergo comprehensive fitness and medical tests in Bengaluru. Parameters include lipid profile, blood sugar levels, uric acid, calcium, Vitamin B12 and D, creatinine, and testosterone.
