Bangladesh’s preparations for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup have faced a setback as pacer Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury. The team, led by Shakib Al Hasan, is aiming to challenge stronger opponents in the regional event. This setback follows Tamim Iqbal’s withdrawal earlier due to a recurring back injury, which led to Shakib taking over the captaincy.
Ebadot Hossain’s absence is a result of an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that he sustained during Bangladesh’s ODI series against Afghanistan last month. After undergoing six weeks of rehabilitation, multiple MRI reports indicated that his ACL remains a concern, necessitating further management. Tanzim Hasan has been named as Ebadot’s replacement in the squad.
Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, BCB Chief Sports Physician, explained, “Despite the six weeks of rehab, Ebadot’s ACL continues to be a concern and needs more attention. Regrettably, he will miss the Asia Cup.”
Considering the upcoming ICC World Cup in October, BCB is committed to ensuring Ebadot’s full recovery. Dr. Chowdhury mentioned, “To prepare Ebadot for the upcoming ICC World Cup, we are exploring various safe medical options, including potential overseas consultation and treatment.”
Bangladesh’s updated squad for the Asia Cup includes captain Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Naim Sheikh, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. As the team faces these challenges, they are determined to put their best foot forward in the upcoming tournament.
