After getting a British passport and citizenship, former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir has stated whether he will play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Amir is only one step away from becoming a citizen and receiving a British passport.
In the year 2020, Amir and his British-born wife, attorney Narjis Khan, relocated to the UK. He is currently seeking to get a British passport and citizenship, which will open up additional cricketing prospects for him.
Playing for England
Amir made it plain where he stands by adamantly stating that he has no desire to wear the England jersey. He said, “First, I will not play for England. I have played for Pakistan.” Ironically, Amir was a part of one of cricket’s most iconic incidents while in England. Amir was a party to a spot-fixing controversy in August 2010 that also featured Mohammed Asif and Salman Butt. The International Cricket Council (ICC) subsequently banned Amir, Asif, and Butt for five years for accepting bribes from a bookie.
Mohammad Amir revealed his differences with the Pakistan team administration and then made his international cricket retirement announcement. Even though there were ongoing whispers that he will leave retirement to play for Men in Green, it seems like everyone has moved on.
One of the biggest benefits of getting his British citizenship for Mohammad Amir was the ability to take part in the IPL as a UK citizen. Pakistani players are not allowed to compete in the IPL as a result of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.
