IND vs PAK: Hotel Tariffs Surge Tenfold in Ahmedabad for World Cup Match on October 15

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan to face-off at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium 15th October

Within 24 hours of the International Cricket Council (ICC) announcing the fixtures for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, with the main game between India and Pakistan to be staged at the famous Narendra Modi Stadium, hotel rates in Ahmedabad over tenfold increased.

According to reports, hotel room costs in Ahmedabad have soared for the October 15 clash between India and archrival Pakistan in the Group stage of the quadrennial competition being held in India.

Rates on several hotel booking websites indicate that exceptional demand may have resulted in a substantial increase in accommodation tariff for October 15, when the archrivals will play at the Narendra Modi stadium here.

Room rates have nearly tenfold increased, with some hotels demanding close to Rs 1 lakh, and many are already booked out for that day. On typical days, room rent in luxury hotels in the capital is between Rs 5,000 and Rs 8,000. For October 15, it has risen to Rs 40,000, and in some instances, Rs 1 lakh.

According to the hotel booking website ‘booking.com,’ the rent for one deluxe room at the Welcome Hotel by ITC Hotels in the city on July 2 is Rs 5,699 per night. However, if you wish to stay for a day on October 15, the same hotel will price Rs 71,999.

The per-day hotel rate at the Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel on SG Highway, which now charges roughly Rs 8,000 per day, is Rs 90,679 on the match day in October.

Similarly, the Pride Plaza Hotel on SG Highway has raised its daily rate to Rs 36,180. The Cama Hotel on the Sabarmati Riverfront, which would normally charge a little more than Rs 3,000 for the upcoming Sunday, has increased its fee to Rs 27,233.

Rooms are not available for October 15 at the city’s five-star hotels ITC Narmada, Courtyard by Marriott, Hyatt, and Taj Skyline Ahmedabad due to record demand.

According to the Gujarat chapter of the Hotels and Restaurants Association (HRA), hotels raised their costs in response to increased demand, primarily from Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and upper-middle-class cricket fans from other states.
