Tammy Beaumont: England’s First Women Double Centurion in Tests, Makes History in Women’s Ashes 2023

Tammy Beaumont made history by being the first female England cricketer to score a double century in Test cricket.

Tammy Beaumont made history by being the first female England cricketer to score a double century in Test cricket. She scored 208 off 331 deliveries in the maiden Women’s Ashes Test in Nottingham. Her innings had 27 fours and no sixes. Beaumont’s double ton aided England’s 463-point total. Australia had reached 472 for 10 from 124.2 overs, led by Annabel Sutherland’s unbeaten 137 and Ellyse Perry’s 99. Australia led by 92 runs in the second innings, having all ten wickets in hand. Australia ended Day 3 with a total of 82 for 0 in 19 overs.

How did she start playing cricket?

Beaumont grew up in Kent, where she was born on March 11, 1991, and saw her brother and father play cricket. His brother and father used a sandwich as a bribe to get her to play cricket, and she succumbed. She made her county debut in 2007, batting fifth. She continued to play well for Kent and, as a result of her efforts, was called up to the England women’s squad to face the West Indies as a wicketkeeper, replacing regular keeper Sarah Taylor. In 2009, at the age of 18, she made her ODI and T20I debuts against the West Indies. Four years later, she made her Test debut against Australia at Wormsley.
